Parque da Fundação de Serralves
um ano no parque é um convite à contemplação do tempo, da Natureza e da memória através da fotografia.
Inspirada nas imagens e nos textos do livro homónimo, esta exposição desvenda, num silêncio íntimo, o passar das estações e a beleza subtil e imprevisível do Parque de Serralves.
O percurso expositivo assenta numa dualidade: de um lado, a presença física do livro, matéria, luz impressa, registo permanente, que se apresenta em forma de fita de Möbius, evocando o ciclo contínuo da Natureza
e um tempo sem princípio nem fim.
Do outro, aquilo que escapa à página e se prolonga no espaço e no tempo, a essência, as marcas, os resíduos,
os reflexos e os múltiplos olhares possíveis sobre uma realidade em constante reinvenção.
A fotografia, mais do que um registo visual, é ponte entre o visível e o invisível, entre o efémero e o
intemporal. O fotógrafo Jorge Sarmento revela em cada imagem fragmentos, nuances e ligações que exprimem
a Natureza na sua diversidade, singularidade e interdependência.
A mostra é também uma homenagem ao Parque enquanto entidade viva e palimpsesto, guardião discreto de
memórias e propósitos, testemunha da passagem do tempo.
Na exposição um ano no parque, procuramos reconhecer a nossa própria transitoriedade face à continuidade
da Natureza. Ao percorrer o livro e a exposição, fica o convite para (re) descobrir o Parque, inscrevendo-nos também numa história maior, aquela que este refúgio guarda para a eternidade.
Esta exposição parte do livro um ano no parque. É sobre o livro, com o livro e para além do livro.
É, também, uma exposição sobre o Parque. As suas imagens são as do livro, mas aqui ganham novo corpo,
novo tempo e nova matéria. É, acima de tudo, a exposição do livro como processo e como objeto, de observação,
de memória e de transfiguração.
Um ano no Parque é um registo de tempo e de espaço, de luz e de matéria, de permanência e transformação. Entre o analógico e o digital, entre o gesto de capturar e o gesto de libertar, constrói-se uma obra feita de dualidades que se interligam sem princípio nem fim.
Jorge Sarmento, antropólogo e fotógrafo documental. A sua narrativa procura destacar fenómenos naturais em diferentes contextos ecológicos, etnográficos e culturais, traduzindo conexões entre
o ser humano e os ecossistemas.

“one year in the park” is an invitation to contemplate time, nature, and memory through photography.
Inspired by the images and texts of the book of the same name, this exhibition unveils, in intimate silence, the passing of the seasons and the subtle and unpredictable beauty of Serralves Park.
The exhibition’s path is based on a duality: on one hand, the physical presence of the book—material, printed light, a permanent record, presented in the form of a Möbius strip, evoking the continuous cycle of nature
and a time without beginning or end. On the other, that which escapes the page and extends through space and time—the essence, the marks, the residues, the reflections, and the multiple possible perspectives on a reality in constant reinvention. Photography, more than a visual record, is a bridge between the visible and the invisible, between the ephemeral and the timeless. Photographer Jorge Sarmento reveals in each image fragments, nuances, and connections that express nature in its diversity, singularity, and interdependence.
The exhibition is also a tribute to the Park as a living entity and palimpsest, a discreet guardian of
memories and purposes, a witness to the passage of time.
In the exhibition “A Year in the Park,” we seek to recognize our own transience in the face of the continuity
of Nature. As we explore the book, “A Year in the Park,” and the exhibition itself, we are invited to (re)discover the Park, also immersing ourselves in a larger story, one that this refuge holds for eternity.
This exhibition begins with the book “A Year in the Park.” It is about the book, with the book, and beyond the book. It is also an exhibition about the Park. Its images are those of the book, but here they take on a new form,
new time, and new matter. It is, above all, the exhibition of the book as a process and as an object, of observation,
of memory, and of transfiguration.
“One Year in the Park” is a record of time and space, of light and matter, of permanence and transformation. Between the analog and the digital, between the gesture of capturing and the gesture of releasing, a work is constructed made of dualities that interconnect without beginning or end.
Jorge Sarmento, anthropologist and documentary photographer. His narrative seeks to highlight natural phenomena in different ecological, ethnographic, and cultural contexts, reflecting connections between
humans and ecosystems.
